The repository in question is KDE:Distro:Factory where KDE 4.4.93 (4.5-rc2) got updated to 4.4.95 (4.5-rc3). Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have any KDE4 version previous to 4.4.95 installed. 2. Run 'zypper up' or, if the update requires vendor change, 'zypper dup' (verbosity at your choice). 3. Watch the "Additional rpm output" when package 'kdm' gets updated. Actual Results: see above Expected Results: Don't know what to expect. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=625765 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=625765#c17 --- Comment #17 from revealed revealed <revealed@freakmail.de> 2011-10-03 19:46:25 UTC --- Hello! Some time has passed. Before i wrote, that i tryed the workaround in comment 12. In the meantime i upgraded to SuSE 11.4 x86_64. I added KDE repos for kde 4.7 and so on. Now i ran into problems with: kdm-branding-openSUSE-11.4-3.2.x86_64 kde4-kgreeter-plugins-4.7.1-5.3.x86_64 kdm-4.7.1-5.3.x86_64 Everytime i execute genkdmrc this var gets set in the shown way: GreeterUID=kdm This leads to that my kdm cant start. It throws the following error in kdm.log: kdmgreet: cannot connect to X server :0 I guess this could consist of: - I dont know if SuSE "pam" is compiled with KDE support - It could be related to missing Xauth file structure like it might exist on different distros? - The lines, that i read in comment 6 that SuSE is different to other distros. So the Solution for me is: I had to remove the User and Group "kdm" from comment 12. After i did that, i ran genkdmrc twice. Now genkdmrc throws this Warning again: Warning: Do not know how to create missing GreeterUID user kdm But! Luckily this value in kdmrc itselves gets set in this way: #GreeterUID=kdm The scriptlet quotes it out. So kdm will start as root (by default). And it is back up and running again. Many thanks for your Help! I don't know if I'm allowed to update Product and Platform, or if that's the task of the bug owner, so I let them on 12.1
Yes, you are allowed to update the Product. When doing it, just add a comment like "initally reported for openSUSE 11.2, still reproducable in 12.2 - updating Product..." (and yes, this bug was really reported initially against 11.2 :-/ ) The Platform field isn't too relevant - IMHO it's good style to keep it on the version where the bug was first reported. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
