[Bug 1228593] New: thinkpad x13s aarch64 continue reset during grub2 load kernel
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1228593 Bug ID: 1228593 Summary: thinkpad x13s aarch64 continue reset during grub2 load kernel Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: aarch64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: macromarship@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Target Milestone: --- Found By: --- Blocker: --- I just bought a thinkpad x13s aarch64. Following HCL:suse I have successfully installed latest version. And I have copied the dtb file to system_drv partition as page requested. But after grub2 load kernel, the computer continues reset. About 7-8 times failed then 1 success. This makes I am afraid to reboot computer because next time will take more tries to come in. I notice the UEFI version is 1.60 or 1.70, which is a higher version than 1.58. Upgrade your UEFI firmware to the newer versions which can support LINUX boot v1.49 or later versions. The latest version tested: v1.58 I have read all the tickets on this website. Can any help guide how to resolve this? Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

With AC power supplied, looks 1-2 retries cant get into linux. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried add "clk_ignore_unused pd_ignore_unused" besides the "arm64.nopauth iommu.passthrough=0 iommu.strict=0" and I tried add "acpi=off". 1 of 10 tries lucky to boot into system. I have update the BIOS to 1.61, the latest version. Just don't know how to debug this. If it can just freeze and show the error code, that would help to diagnose the problem. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can just wait seeing it continuousl6 reset itself. Then suddenly it boot in. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I am quite familiar with debug linux kernel on embed device. Just on laptop, no kernel boot message, no hangs ,panic ,just reset. Please take a look at this paragraph: https://en.opensuse.org/HCL:ThinkpadX13s#UEFI_Setup_for_Linux_Boot that will explain how to enable it from UEFI menu. Many thanks, Andrea -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1228593 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1228593#c7 --- Comment #7 from Scott Zhang <macromarship@gmail.com> --- Dear Andrea: I tried disable linux boot, no help, getting worse. I see about 10+ times after seeing "loading kernel, loading initial ramdisk" then computer reboot. Normally if it works after seeing "loading kernel, loading initial ramdisk", the top screen will show a cursor blinking then boot message and soon show gnome desktop. I enabled "linux boot" again. Now still 1 of many retries can go into system, many many retries and finally in. I checked "security boot" disabled. And windows 11 boot quite well, no failures so far. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1228593 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1228593#c8 --- Comment #8 from Miroslav Beneš <mbenes@suse.com> --- Do you have "debug ignore_loglevel" on the kernel command line? If not, please add it and share if there is something relevant printed with that. Also, as Andrea pointed out, you need the linux boot enabled, not disabled. As mentioned if you follow the link provided. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

With linux boot enabled, I can get into system just need many retries, not stable, maybe 10-20. Without linux boot, when grub start loading, nearly immediately reboot. I tried add "debug ignore_loglevel" to linux boot argument, but the grub boot message is not readable. It shows on top part of screen and being show as 3 splited micro screen, the message keep scrolling within microscreen, don't kown how to fix this. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1228593 https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1228593#c12 --- Comment #12 from Andrea della Porta <andrea.porta@suse.com> --- Hi Scott, in order to match your setup, I'll kindly ask if you can: - update to latest TW (I'm using 20241027 as of now) - update the fw via Windows to 1.61 - with linux boot enabled in UEFI fw, please remove iommu.strict=0 from kernel command line. You could do this either from the grub menu by hitting 'e' on the default selected command line, doing the changes and then hitting ctrl-x to boot, or you could just temporarily change the relevant entry in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg. Please note whether this helps to fix the boot issue you're experiencing. - when the laptop does boot, please attach in this ticket the file produced as output form the following command (i.e. /tmp/dts.txt): dtc -I fs -O dts /sys/firmware/devicetree/base > /tmp/dts.txt in case teh dtc command is not recognized, please install it via: sudo zypper in dtc Many thanks, Andrea -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
