[Bug 228865] New: Unable to delete user after logging into KDE
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=228865 Summary: Unable to delete user after logging into KDE Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: spam.lounge@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de A user created under openSUSE 10.2 can't be removed after being used to log into the default KDE session. How to reproduce: Boot the machine and after it reaches the KDM screen, switch to another console and create a user called "test": # useradd -m test # passwd test Switch back to KDM and log in with this user, wait for KDE to load and log out. Switch back to the terminal and try to remove the user: # userdel -r test userdel: account `test' is currently in use. It seems the problem is a dangling session which won't go away after logging out of KDE. # last test test pts/0 Fri Dec 15 15:54 gone - no logout test :0 console Fri Dec 15 15:53 - 15:55 (00:01) test :0 Fri Dec 15 15:53 - 15:53 (00:00) wtmp begins Thu Dec 14 11:29:03 2006 The user "test" has no processes left running at this point, the only way (that I can see) to remove him using userdel, is to either move/rename /var/run/utmp or reboot the machine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It registers a session, but doesn't clear it. To reduce the test case: login in a failsafe session, start dcopserver last $USER kded killall kded last $USER notice the difference -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=228865 ------- Comment #3 from llunak@novell.com 2007-05-17 12:30 MST ------- Hmm, strange. Are you sure about what's in comment #2? In a failsafe session kded does not load the kwrited module automatically, moreover kded has a signal handler that should make it exit cleanly. I cannot reproduce any problem that way on clean 10.2. And, while I can reproduce the original problem, it happens only occassionaly. I personally think the problem is actually bug #178930 - during KDE shutdown, first kdeinit and friends are terminated, then 'artsshell -q terminate' is called, which, if arts is not running, will actually launch it again using kcminit, which also launches kdeinit again. After that startkde terminates after a while, terminating also X, which makes dcopserver and kded see the closed connection to X and they exit, without proper cleanup in this case. I think just applying the patch from bug #178930 should also solve this problem (it's hard to be sure though). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
