Anyway instead of patching the volume control applet why not starting the PulseAudio applet by default (which you can find a PulseAudio Device Chooser in the Computer menu)? This applet sits in the notification area, and provides access to all PulseAudio settings including the PulseAudio Volume control that the patched volume control launches when you double click it. Exactly, this is what I was trying to say. Patching the volume control applet
was a bad idea because of two reasons:
1. it makes the applet unusable for non PA users
2. it is unnecessary too, because PA has its own applet (PA Device Chooser)
What I was suggesting is to remove the patch and start PA Device Chooser
automatically if PA is installed.
