https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=684043 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=684043#c0 Summary: Matrox mga driver makes X crash and freeze system on boot. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: anders.genell@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=422393) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=422393) Xorg log User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.16) Gecko/20110323 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.16 Installing OpenSUSE 11.4 from the 4.7 Gb DVD image on a system with an onboard Matrox G200 chip when fine, but upon reboot after completed install system freezes after Grub splash with blank screen. No Grub options (such as nomodeset), choosing failsafe, or trying to boot to runlevel 3 works. Booting a OpenSUSE 11.4 LiveCD results in X crashing, but at least it is falling back to console login prompt. Installing from the 4.7 Gb DVD image and choosing text only as desktop works fine. More details can be found here: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/install-boot-logi... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install an OpenSUSE 11.4 system with X desktop on a maschine with a Matrox G200 graphics chip. 2.Boot normally from harddrive 3.Choose any Grub option Actual Results: System freezes with a blank screen an is completely unresponsive (not even numlock LED on the keyboard works) Expected Results: The systrem should have booted into an ordinary X desktop session boot.msg can be found here: http://susepaste.org/28932233 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Empty backtrace. Wonderful! :-(
I could possibly boot the LiveCD and post the Xorg.0.log from that crash too, if needed?
I doubt that would help. Also, how do you want to copy the logfile of a LiveCD if the system freezes? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Does the LiveCD backtrace provide anything useful? I get the feeling the installed system hangs before the backtrace could be written to the log, but that the cause could be the same as for the LiveCD, just with different outcomes... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, the corresponding driver from ubuntu 10.04 repositories seem to work (at least i did an install and that showed no similar errors) so maybe there could be some way to compare source code? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
