[Bug 399416] New: Firefox fsync problem
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=399416 Summary: Firefox fsync problem Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: RC 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bwhiteley@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- This seems to be a well-known problem, but I can't find an existing bug. Firefox in 11.0 is causing some serious problems. http://shaver.off.net/diary/2008/05/25/fsyncers-and-curveballs/ It often hangs my entire system for up to 30 seconds. After three days of running the troubled Firefox, my laptop HDD has started making some new, disturbing noises that it hasn't made before. I tried the LD_PRELOAD hack, but it doesn't seem to help much. Not sure why. The preload library is capturing the calls to fsync(). http://www.snorp.net/log/2008/05/21/out-weaseling-firefox/ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Mozilla strongly suggests to use the in-tree sqlite version
awful bad idea..
We for example are relying on the system installed sqlite. This is concerning me a bit.
if you find problems in the system sqlite open bug reports ;-) library code duplication is already a problem in the distribution, please dont make it worst. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Note that I understand both sides pretty well and support using system libs where unproblematic. We as Linux distributions have simply not the QA to make sure that upstream not-supported configurations are not breaking anything. Pretty good summary just to look at it from the other side http://www.0xdeadbeef.com/weblog/?p=368 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
