I believe that root (/dev/sda2,1) is causing the problem. I went back to the (hd0,1) and it boots fine. Drive sda has four partitions: sda1 swap sda2 / (*bootable) sda3 /home sda4 /webpages /dev/md0 is made from sdb and sdc /tmp2 and is not the bootable device. before update /root/grub/menu.lst ###Don't change this comment - YaST2 identifier: Original name: linux### title default --10.3 kernel (hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22.12-0.1-default root=/dev/sda2 resume=/dev/sda1 splash=silent showopts initrd (hd0,1)/boot/initrd-2.6.22.12-0.1-default After update: ###Don't change this comment - YaST2 identifier: Original name: linux### title openSUSE 10.3 - 2.6.22.13-0.3 root (/dev/sda2,1) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22.13-0.3-default root=/dev/sda2 resume=/dev/sda1 splash=silent showopts initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.22.13-0.3-default By the way, I did not see a backup of the last kernel.
