I upgraded today to openSUSE 12.2 and now the touchpad doesn't work at all. The synaptics module is loaded and hwinfo shows the touchpad is detected, but KDM and KDE are completely unresponsive to its use. Running synaptiks gives me the "No touchpad found" message. I'm willing to help test and troubleshoot. $ grep synaptics /var/log/Xorg.0.log [ 42.585] (II) LoadModule: "synaptics" [ 42.585] (II) Loading /usr/lib64/xorg/modules/input/synaptics_drv.so [ 42.585] (II) Module synaptics: vendor="X.Org Foundation" $ rpm -q kernel-desktop kernel-desktop-3.4.11-2.16.1.x86_64 $ /usr/sbin/hwinfo --mouse 43: PS/2 00.0: 10500 PS/2 Mouse [Created at input.249] Unique ID: AH6Q.5+smWHVjPI3 Hardware Class: mouse Model: "PS/2 Mouse" Vendor: 0x0002 Device: 0x0008 "PS/2 Mouse" Compatible to: int 0x0210 0x0003 Device File: /dev/input/mice (/dev/input/mouse0) Device Files: /dev/input/mice, /dev/input/mouse0, /dev/input/event1, /dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-2-event-mouse, /dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-2-mouse Device Number: char 13:63 (char 13:32) Driver Info #0: Buttons: 3 Wheels: 0 XFree86 Protocol: explorerps/2 GPM Protocol: exps2 Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown 44: PS/2 00.0: 10500 PS/2 Mouse [Created at input.249] Unique ID: AH6Q.5+smWHVjPI3 Hardware Class: mouse Model: "AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint" Vendor: 0x0002 Device: 0x0008 "AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint" Compatible to: int 0x0210 0x0003 Device File: /dev/input/mice (/dev/input/mouse1) Device Files: /dev/input/mice, /dev/input/mouse1, /dev/input/event2, /dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-2-event-mouse, /dev/input/by-path/platform-i8042-serio-2-mouse Device Number: char 13:63 (char 13:33) Driver Info #0: Buttons: 3 Wheels: 0 XFree86 Protocol: explorerps/2 GPM Protocol: exps2 Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I was able to regain control of the trackpad by commenting out the following two lines in xorg.conf: Option "AutoAddDevices" "off" Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "on" I don't know if these lines were present before my upgrade and caused problems only in 12.2, or whether the upgrade process itself inserted them. Regardless, Bug 756129 doesn't seem to be the culprit. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
