https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276577 ------- Comment #3 from mfabian@novell.com 2007-05-21 07:59 MST ------- Reassigned to Jürgen Weigert. As this is a commercial font, we certainly cannot fix that. But maybe we should report this to Agfa/Monotype or whoever licenses this font to us. And/or maybe we should not package this broken font in our agfa-fonts package anymore (until we get a fixed version by the font maker). Does anybody know whether there some weird application needs a font which is exactly broken in this way? Could anything break if we just remove it? I doubt it, but I just want to make sure. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Somebody must have upstream contacts. Where did these fonts come from? If we cannot get upstream to fis the font, I think we should remove “Monotype Sorts” from the package in order to avoid problems with such a broken font. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Sorry, I don't agree on that. Yes, the font might be broken in a technical sence - but there are people (aka "normal users") who use it anyway. And nearly nobody cares because it is an icon font and used as such. Simply removing the font is the worst you can do to the users. And there are more fonts out there that abuse the ASCII positions (no, I won't name any of them) - do you also want to ban those? BTW: What sort of problems do you expect? (Unreadable text is expected behaviour on icon fonts, so it doesn't count as bug.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=276577 ------- Comment #11 from mfabian@novell.com 2007-05-23 16:16 MST ------- Christian Boltz> BTW: What sort of problems do you expect? Unreadable text. Christian Boltz> (Unreadable text is expected behaviour on icon fonts, Christian Boltz> so it doesn't count as bug.) No, it is not. Correct symbol fonts have the symbols at their correct Unicode positions. See the other symbols fonts, for example - OpenSymbol (from OpenOffice, /usr/lib64/ooo-2.0/share/fonts/truetype/opens___.ttf) - Dingbats (from ghostscript-fonts-std-8.15.3-46, /usr/share/fonts/URW/d050000l.pfb) - ... These have the symbols at their correct Unicode positions. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
