[Bug 472776] New: Kontact fails to import KDE3 information into KDE4 automatically for Kmail, Knode, Korganiser.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=472776 Summary: Kontact fails to import KDE3 information into KDE4 automatically for Kmail, Knode, Korganiser. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: hacker@scarlet-jade.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008121300 SUSE/3.0.5-2.5 Firefox/3.0.5 After installing 11.1 (KDE4.1) and opening Kontact for an existing user, all Contact and Akregator information is moved/converted to KDE4 files. This does not happen for Kmail, Knode, or Korganiser. For Kmail, the mail folders and contents can be imported but not identities, accounts, filters. Korganiser data can be imported. For both Kmail and Korganiser, this importation is not straightforward as the required files are hidden and so cannot be "found" but either have to have the filenames typed in or have the files copied to a non-hidden folder which can be found. Knode has no import facility so files have to copied. All this is a pain in the posterior and an automatic population of KDE4 files from KDE3 should have been working from 4.0. We certainly shouldn't be still waiting for it at 4.2! I have raised this on a KDE group and been told that it *does* work and that it must be a fault with SUSE implementation. The implication was that the files are stored in a different folder structure in the SUSE implementation and so, when Kmail looks for info in the KDE3 Mail folder, it can't find it. I've tried installing Kubuntu to check the above accusation but have not succeeded in installing it successfully yet! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make clean installation of 11.1 (KDE 4.1) on a machine that already has 11.1 (KDE 3.5) on another partition, but with both sharing the same /home partition and same user. Add Knode to the software. 2. Start Kontact. 3. Look at the applications in Kontact and what has/hasn't been transferred. Actual Results: All Contact and Akregator information is moved/converted to KDE4 files. This does not happen for Kmail, Knode, or Korganiser. Expected Results: Converted it all. It should be transparent to the user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Apparently, Kmail looks in folder "mail" for the info it needs. Unfortunately, that doesn't exist in SUSE's implementation so it assumes it's a new installation and new user. I assume that the other applications are failing for similar reasons. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thank you. The migration is not a trivial .kde to .kde4 copy; distlists go missing and other groupware settings require additional migration tools that I am working on. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'd made the assumption that if the interface allowed me to put values in these fields then I was - er - allowed to do so. Given the overall shoddiness of the bugzilla interface I guess I should have known better. Anyway, good luck with sorting this out. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
