https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=633101 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=633101#c0 Summary: Windows manager crash approximately once a day Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rkrell@gmx.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=384368) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=384368) The Xorg.0.log.old of the previously failed session, exited by switching to console mode and rebooting as root User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100723 SUSE/3.6.8-1.3 Firefox/3.6.8 Happens with both, the official GNOME packages from the 11.3 distribution and GNOME:Factory: Approximately once a day the windows manager exits unexpectedly, resulting in hanging the Windows around with no titles and making the task bar and rest of the desktop unusable. BTW: is the a way to restart the window manager after a crash without logging out, or even better, is there a setting to auto-restart it on crashes, like KDE does? ... As a workaround: you should be able to start metacity --replace & once it crashed to get a WM back (this of course not as a solution, but as a workaround for you)
If this should happen from within the X session, there is needed an access to a terminal, which wasn't given in that moment, because no menu worked any more and the hanging windows covered the appropriate icons on desktop. I tried this already after switching to console mode pressing CTRL-ALT-F2 and using: metacity --display=:0 --replace but this didn't work out beacuse of some security issues. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
