https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=413264 Summary: The yast module "Windows Domain Membership" didn't complete its task Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: nice@titanic.nyme.hu QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- On an openSUSE 10.3 with traditional /etc/shadow authentication i starterd the mentioned yast module in order to transform the host into an active directory member server. I also set the options "Also Use SMB Informtion for Linux Authentication", "Create Home Directory on Login", "Allow Users to Share Their Directories". The host succesfully joined the domain, the KDM screen changed in order to llow domain logins, /etc/nsswitch.onf and /etc/pam.d/common-* seem to be OK, but /etc/samba/smb.conf not. For example security=user. I have to change it manually. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the logfiles, I only can see that your join was successful, but there was not an attempt to save the config file (just like you wouldn't correctly exit

Turning on winbind authentication doesn't disable nscd in spite of the fact that SaMBa documentations suggest to do so: http://www.hep.phy.cam.ac.uk/samba-3.0.9/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/winbind.html
It is true the YaST module doesn't disable nscd, it only removes its cache.
Isn't it a problem?
I'm not sure. I hope someone from samba-team could help us. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From the logfiles, I only can see that your join was successful, but there was not an attempt to save the config file (just like you wouldn't correctly exit the module... but this seems to be unlikely). Could you please test again with openSUSE 11.0?

There is no need to disable nscd. Several serious bugs between winbindd and nscd are fixed. It is comfortable to let nscd running with winbindd.
