[Bug 1190423] New: Bluetooth always visible even when laptop suspended or powered off
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190423 Bug ID: 1190423 Summary: Bluetooth always visible even when laptop suspended or powered off Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.3 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Leap 15.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: sb56637@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 852457 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=852457&action=edit hwinfo MSI Modern 14 (B10MW-486) Hi there, this is quite a bizarre issue. I just installed openSUSE Leap 15.3 on a new MSI Modern 14 (B10MW-486) laptop. It appears that the 5.3 kernel in Leap can not properly turn off the Bluetooth radio, or possibly a soft block is not enough to turn it off. What is even more strange is that the Bluetooth is always visible even while the laptop is in suspend-to-RAM mode or even when powered *off*. I have checked and confirmed this multiple times with multiple devices. I also booted into Windows and turned off the Bluetooth and it disappeared, but as soon as I boot into Leap it returns, even though it shows this: # rfkill list 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no I also tested this with Manjaro and kernel 5.13, and a soft block on Bluetooth (as shown above) makes it invisible, so apparently this bug is fixed with newer kernels. I wanted to test the kernel from Kernel:/stable too, but it conflicts with "filesystem < 16". I'm attaching my hwinfo. Please let me know if you need any more information. Please check with that instead of Kernel:stable. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190423 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190423#c2 --- Comment #2 from S. B. <sb56637@gmail.com> --- Thanks Takashi. With the latest kernel from that repo it appears that this bug is *also* present. It's quite hard to test because with kernel 5.14 because it's also affected by bug #1190424 . But after multiple reboots I can confirm that the Bluetooth remains visible even when soft-blocked. So it looks like it might be a userland problem? I'll test next with a Tumbleweed live USB. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190423 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190423#c4 --- Comment #4 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> --- Yes, that's also my suspect: basically when rfkill soft-blocked is shown, it's off from the kernel POV, so it's likely something in user-space side. Which program or app are you checking as a BT liveness? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

B. <sb56637@gmail.com> --- I'm using Blueberry to control the Bluetooth on the device, and I'm using my other Linux laptop and two different Android devices to check for the Bluetooth visibility. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190423 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1190423#c6 --- Comment #6 from S. B. <sb56637@gmail.com> --- It appears that the bug is *not* present with the latest Tumbleweed XFCE live ISO. It's still a bit hard to test due to bug #1190424, but the Bluetooth visibility goes away as expected when suspended or powered off from that system. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
