[Bug 415663] New: during update additional installation sources are not used as source for installation
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=415663 Summary: during update additional installation sources are not used as source for installation Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jsj@jsj.dyndns.org QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- If I am updating from an earlier version of openSUSE to 11.0, I can add additional installation sources prior to the update. In contrast to a fresh installation, during update the additional sources are not considered. When I check for the installation sources in the updated system, all sources are there, but at that very moment the repo data are retrieved and the gpg-key check is done. In both cases I let the previously used repositories unused and configured additonal repositories (update and non-oss, in 10.1->11.0 case packman additionally). After update not any package from the update repo has been used, zypper up had a lot of work to do. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The reason for downloading metadata is that the package manager in the new version have different metadata format and might need different files from the repositories. Using the old repositories during upgrade is probably not a good idea. Because 'yast update' on a running system is not a supported scenario) that offers to enable or disable old sources (or even rewrite their URLs, e.g. 10.3 -> 11.0). There were these "old" URLs on the 10.3 system before upgrade: clients/inst_upgrade_urls.ycp:104 URLs: [ $["autorefresh":1, "baseurl":"http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/debug/", "enabled":0, "gpgcheck":1, "id":"http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/debug/", "name":"http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/debug/", "type":"NONE"], $["autorefresh":1, "baseurl":"http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss/", "enabled":0, "gpgcheck":1, "id":"http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss/", "name":"http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss/", "type":"NONE"], $["autorefresh":1, "baseurl":"ftp://mirror.jacobs-university.de/opensuse/distribution/10.3/repo/oss", "enabled":1, "gpgcheck":1, "id":"openSUSE-10.3-FTP 10.3", "name":"openSUSE-10.3-FTP 10.3", "path":"/", "type":"yast2"], $["autorefresh":1, "baseurl":"ftp://mirror.jacobs-university.de/opensuse/update/10.3", "enabled":1, "gpgcheck":1, "id":"10.3", "name":"opensuse 10.3 update", "path":"/", "type":"rpm-md"] ] You have not enabled any of these URLs: clients/inst_upgrade_urls.ycp:703 Adding DISABLED repos: [ "http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/debug/", "http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss/", "ftp://mirror.jacobs-university.de/opensuse/distribution/10.3/repo/oss", "ftp://mirror.jacobs-university.de/opensuse/update/10.3" ] .. so they've been added as "disabled" By default, they are disabled. You would have to enable them (toggle thei status) and probably change "10.3" to "11.0" in their URLs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I did not intend to use the old repos, instead I am configuring new repos using the "Add Installation Source" function during the preparation phase of YaST2. These sources are _not_ used, allthough they are present in the updated system and usable afterwards. If - in contrast to the above mentioned cenario - I re-activate old sources from the old system and change the URLs of these old sources to the URLs suitable to the new version, then the sources are used. Up to now I consider your answers as invalid, not the bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

There is a way to add a repo - via Add-On Product checkbox in the Installation/Update selection screen. I can confirm now, that a repository added this way is not used during installation. Attached yast logs. Lado, it seems pkg-bindings do add the repository 'somewhere' but immediately after that they read known repos from /mnt/etc/zypp/repos.d. Maybe the newly added repo is lost at this point? See log at 8:59:06, search for RepositoryAdd. By the way: first i tried the ftp repo mentioned above and came accross a strante error: zypp thought repo/repoindex.xml file was there, but in fact it wasn't. The repo was detected as RIS service as a result. But that's another bug. Http repo was detected allright. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
