If something more generic makes more sense, wouldn't it also make sense to be handled by other package (other than audit)?
It depends upon the exact approach taken. If a new group should be introduced (which probably makes sense) then it could be added to the system-users package. The audit package would then need to require this package and apply appropriate permissions to the respective log files.
Regarding (future) SLE we would probably need some kind of feature request but I suppose at the moment we're only talking about openSUSE.
@Thorsten can you look at what's being discussed/requested here and provide us your insight please? Would you be ok with such change?
