[Bug 760914] New: Samba printing not working after update to 3.6.X (Failed to fetch record!)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=760914 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=760914#c0 Summary: Samba printing not working after update to 3.6.X (Failed to fetch record!) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Samba AssignedTo: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de ReportedBy: a.winzer@koenig-dey.de QAContact: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0 I'm using samba for virtual printing. I send via samba PostScript commands to 2 scripts. One makes pdf-files using "ps2pdf" the other one png-files using "convert". This system is used exclusively with Windows XP Prof. (SP3) clients. I started with version 3.5.7 which is content of the openSUSE 11.4 x64 DVD. I'm using the scripts since openSUSE 10.3. With the last updates via repository "update" I made the update to 3.6.3. Since than I can print with samba as well. As long the Windows XP system has the printers already installed. But if I want to setup a new System the printer is found, I can install the Windows drivers but I can't connect at the end of the install routine. This should mean something like 01 'Printer connection failed. Either the entered' 02 'printer name is invalid, or the entered printer is not connected to the server.' 03 'Click on "help" to get further information.' The further information are useless. There are no files at /var/log/cups. The specific file at /var/log/samba/log.lh-02 has the following content: [2012/05/07 12:01:29.721655, 1] printing/printer_list.c:94(printer_list_get_printer) Failed to fetch record! [2012/05/07 12:01:31.224536, 1] printing/printer_list.c:94(printer_list_get_printer) Failed to fetch record! Deactivation of AppArmor didn't help. I add 'http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/samba:/STABLE/openSUSE_11...' to my repositories and updated to 3.6.4 and yesterday (May 6th 2012) to 3.6.5. It didn't help with that problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Installed clean Windows XP clients in real and virtual Machines. The same error every time. Actual Results: Could be similar with https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=760425: Problems since 3.6.3. But the error messages are quite different. Can someone please give me exact advice howto downgrade to samba 3.5.7? The printcap cache retrieved from the printing backend (CUPS) is stored temporarily in a printer list tdb. Alexander, are you still having XP printer connection issues in 12.1?
I'm not using 12.1. I still use 11.4. I add the repository http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/samba:/STABLE/openSUSE_11... and made some updates over the last weeks. Until I'm not setting up a Windows XP machine every day I can't tell, if it worked meanwhile. But I believe it worked fine at least once. That's the reason, why I forgot this Thread.

I got that. However it's kind of a miracle that just today I have to do a Window XP and install of samba printers failed again. Meanwhile I version 3.6.6-114.1-2823-SUSE-SL11.4-x86_64 is installed. Because of your message, I already cleared all files in /var/lib/samba which has to do with printing and /var/lib/samba/printing itself. Without success :-( Now understanding the error message is there anything else I could do/try? Until you set the need info flag, what further information do you request? These error messages are caused by delete_and_reload_printers(), which checks the pcap cache for printers which have been defined statically (in smb.conf). It has been fixed upstream with master commit ba862f47d78e0077d3e01dd84635b76850314436. The errors are likely unrelated to the printing failures you are seeing. Therefore this bug should remain open. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I just installed a "new" Windows XP Client, trying to connect to the virtual samba printers. Right now I upgraded over some stages to Samba 3.6.12-162.1-2943-SUSE-SL11.4-x86_64. Unfortunate way I still can't connect to the printer. If it's connected somehow it works. What bothers me is the point I can't fix that with a downgrade to the 11.4-DVD-version of samba anymore. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
