Obviously, number 3) is a viable option, but it feels too much like a workaround for me, rather than the proper fix of the problem. Manuel, if you have somewhere the branch where you test this, how difficult it would be to try to do 2)? If it works, I would certainly push it to SLE-15 (probably SP3 and SP4, right?).
