[Bug 764690] New: Use /etc/adjtime as reference for the time standard used by CMOS clock
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=764690 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=764690#c0 Summary: Use /etc/adjtime as reference for the time standard used by CMOS clock Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Factory Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: jsuchome@suse.com ReportedBy: werner@suse.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de CC: ro@suse.com, werner@suse.com, mmarek@suse.com, fcrozat@suse.com Found By: Development Blocker: --- As the systemd uses /etc/adjtime to determine the used time standard of the HW clock, the current place (HWCLOCK variable in /etc/sysconfig/clock) has to be changed. For this the package mkinitrd has to changed (submit requests #122302 and #122651), as well as the package aaa_base (submit request #122392), and finally the package yast2-country has to be adopted for this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

USE_ADJUST="no" does not influence the usage of the last line of /etc/adjtime
Ok. But the problem is that I installed specifying 12.2 that the CMOS clock uses local time, but the adjtime says UTC. This is an error and may cause problems in some software pieces (unverified by me). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What reason do you have to use a broken reference clock in CMOS? ...
I agree that keeping the CMOS in UTC is better, but in some cases you can not. In my case, the 12.2 install is a virtual one in vmplayer, and this uses local time for the emulated cmos clock, and the guest tools keep sync to the host clock, which is local. I simply have no choice in this (Bug 773323). Other people have to use local time because they double boot to other systems (Windows). Version 7 can use CMOS clock in UTC, but this is little known (see http://en.opensuse.org/SDB%3AConfiguring_the_clock for an explanation). But people double booting to older versions have no choice but to keep using local time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

ok, new inst-sys submitted
