Seems to be caused by the fact that cinnamon needs libcinnamon.so which cannot be found. Reading the changelog in the project this might be fixed with recent checkin but building for 12.1 is disabled. Pretty dumb thing to do in the first place (the situation which led to it was actually a nvidia issue). I will also try an update to 1.4.0 UP3 which should fix at least two interesting bugs on current UP1.
