[Bug 273571] New: YaST Boot Loader Settings Edit Button Modifies Last Entry In List w/ Name
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273571 Summary: YaST Boot Loader Settings Edit Button Modifies Last Entry In List w/ Name Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3plus Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: HANtwister@comcast.net QAContact: jsrain@novell.com When using YaST Bootloader Settings, if more than one entry has the same name, selecting any of the entries and clicking Edit will always Edit the last entry with the same name in the list. For example, if two kernels are installed, and both assign the name for the bootloader entry in the form of 'openSUSE 10.3 x.y-z', then selecting either will result in YaST allowing you to edit the latter in the list. This can also become a problem if an entry is manually changed to have the same name as another entry. Further, determining the default entry appears to be dependent on the name of the entry as well, so if the default entry has the same name as any other entries, YaST will display all entries with the same matching name as the default. Deleting any one of the entries with the same name as the true default entry will cause YaST to reassign the default entry. Finally, it seems as if this applies equally to deleting entries as well - clicking Delete will delete the last entry in the list with the same name as the selected entry. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

In my opinion, the Section Management in Yast Boot Loader Settings has been unreliable as far back as I can remember. My personal experience is that cloning a section always leads to big trouble, with subsequent actions referring to both the original and the clone.
I have found that editing /boot/grub/menu.lst directly is much safer.

Problem is that also yast uses name as unique identifier ( because only grub uses numbers). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
