[Bug 482507] New: yast2: can't `update' to downgraded packages in one run after removal of a package repository
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=482507 Summary: yast2: can't `update' to downgraded packages in one run after removal of a package repository Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: wl@gnu.org QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009022800 SUSE/3.0.7-1.2 Firefox/3.0.7 Recently I used the openSuSE X11 package repository to upgrade to the latest X11 stuff. However, it didn't work with my graphics card (due to severe bugs). I removed the X11 package repository and tried to downgrade. While this works manually on a per-package basis, it doesn't work if I display all installed packages, then selecting `update all packages in list if newer version is available'. This looks like a bug. I repeated the process yesterday -- the unsuccessful inclusion of the Xorg repository and installation of the Xorg packages have been finished on 01-Apr-2009 around 0:34; after an unsuccessful reboot (which gave me a TTY prompty only) I deselected the Xorg repository and manually `upgraded' all affected packages (which I've protocolled in advance). This was finished around 0:48. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It this case you had installed newer version than available. You have to use "update unconditionally" option but you have to filter the packages first otherwise too many packages would be reinstalled. Maybe something like "update to the latest available" could be useful. For the former, I can do an `update if newer available' in the above situation, and it gets properly downgraded. For the latter, it doesn't do anything. Your suggestion sounds fine. However, I can imagine that it would be even better to completely replace the `update if newer available' with `update to the latest available', emitting a warning if it actually is a doing a downgrade. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
