[Bug 389958] New: kdesu save password checkbox
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=389958 Summary: kdesu save password checkbox Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: noelamac@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- After updating to kde 3.5.9 (61.2) kdesu shows a checkbox to allow the user saving root password for later re-utilization (if checked, no more password asking for a while). This option was not available on previous versions of kde (i.e. 3.5.9 - 51.2) and should be, at least, optional. Saving root password can lead to security issues... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's seem to be optional, otherwise there wouldn't be a checkbox.
Two issues arise: 1) On kde 3.5.9-51.2 this checkbox was not available (see attached image). 2) If this a new "feature" of the new kde release, I would expect a way to get the same behaviour found on previous versions, so I can: a) Disable this checkbox at all ("kdesu -n /sbin/yast2" does the trick) b) Enable the checkbox but _not checked_ by default c) Enable the checkbox _and checked_ by default
But it likely shouldn't be enabled by default.
Not only is enabled (presented to the user) by default, it is also "checked" by default ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

actually older releases saved the password by default without asking the user. So I see this as improvement in your requested way.
Not sure why under suse 10.1 and here on 10.3 I've never seen that option before :-?. This is the first time I get this checked checkbox, only after an update to kde 3.5.9-61.2 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
