Everything was working. Then I did an update of the system, followed by updating KDE to SC 4.5.4. To do this I moved the System from the OpenSUSE 11.3 Standard KDE-Reps to the SC 4.5.4 Upstream-Reps (Base and Extra). I also installed a number of other software while doing this. All installations and updates worked fine. But when I login as user I get a BLACK SCREEN, although for the system everything seems to work fine (NO WARNING or BUG-MESSAGE). Funny enough I get shaded squares of a context-menu when I do a right click on the desktop. Still there is no menu displayed. Could be a fault in KDE workspace, QT, X11 oder the radeon-driver. the latter is version: xorg-x11-driver-video-radeonhd, ver. 1.3.0_20100325_f6c9991-1.13, all others are the current versions available for OpenSUSE 11.3. Do I have to install the current proprietary driver for the redaon mobility 5470?? Or any other ideas?? Maybe I should add that I also, since the update, do not have graphical root access, because the update killed the necessary option in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager. I know how to fix this in principle, but not, how to do this from the console ... I'm a bit dump at this point :-), sorry. Also, I do write this from the Windows-desktop now, since I have no Internet-access from the linux OS Please keep that in mind when answering. From the perspective of system everything seems to be okay though: no bus message or warning displayed
