I tried setting the hibernate strategy in /etc/pm/config to "userspace", and it freezes during suspend (on a message like "snapshotting system"). First my little moon-shaped suspend light flashes for a while, then it stops flashing in the off state and the machine is frozen (but with the display still lit -- not suspended). I tried setting the hibernate strategy to "kernel" and it seems to start hibernating, gives a bunch of USB messages, says CPU 1 is offline, then appears to start up again immediately and gets a bunch of I/O errors on sda (the hard drive) and says CPU 1 is up and then freezes. Suspend to RAM works fine on the same machine.
