I've tried to install and reinstall several times but still the problem is that I cannot properly shutdown or reboot my laptop Compaq Presario 2100
I thought it was fixed already coz I've seen report since beta version of 11.1, but now after being GM/Final version of 11.1 and this problem still exist.
How can I fix this?

When I log-in just once, then the reboot or shutdown process fails. By just pressing "CTRL"+"Alt"+"F1", the process is continued. When I've log-in more then once, the shutdown/reboot process goes normal. By using the on/of switch of the computer (just pressing it shortly), the shutdown sequence is experiencing no errors.

Whenever shutting down or restarting, the laptop won't complete the process on its own. Maybe someone else could check this out, in my case, if I hold the i.e. CTRL key down, the process will continue. Same thing if I run my fingers on the touchpad. Other than that, I tried leaving it for a while during shutdown but it never completed (after around 30 mins).
My logs don't show anything related to this problem. This is an excerpt of /var/log/messages:

i notice the following
when the laptop is running on battery, i could not boot/shutdown completely. it hangs during boot or shutdown and i have to press ctrl key to proceed furthur. this happens many times during the boot process.
during shutdown, it proceeds till the very end but the machine gets powerd off only after pressing ctrl key.
Also i notice the following, when the computer (running on battery) hangs during startup/shutdown , connect the power chord and swith to ac power and the whole process completes fine.
i did a small workaround - just add the following - "acpi=noirq" to kernel parameters finex the issue for me. but not sure what is its side effects ( i found that after i do this , i cannot get back from a suspend mode)

For me shutting down was also a problem (until I used acpi_skip_timer_override). Will the option you are mentioning solve the shutdown issue as well?
