[Bug 463127] New: X server hangs while running KDE4 applications ( Intel graphics)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=463127 Summary: X server hangs while running KDE4 applications (Intel graphics) Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: rjw@novell.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Development Hardware: Toshiba Portege R500 (Intel platform) Software: openSUSE 11.1 w/ kernel 2.6.28 (from kernel.org), KDE4 /w 3D extensions The X server occasionally hangs while running KDE4 applications, such as KMail or Akregator, in which case the keyboard and mouse are completely unresponsive, but it still is possible to log into the box over SSH and get some debug info. In that state the X server doesn't respond to 'kill -TERM' and attempting to terminate it with 'kill -KILL' causes the entire box to hang hard when the X server is restarted by kdm. Arguably, that may be a kernel issue, but I don't really think so, because 2.6.28 worked very well on the same box with openSUSE 11.0 (KDE 3.5). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Interestingly enough, the hangs always happen when browsing the contents of a window using the mouse wheel.
This information was not correct. It also hangs during other kinds of activity causing the contents of a window to change quickly in response to either mouse or keyboard actions (like viewing a message in the message preview window in KMail or rewinding a Bugzilla page etc.). When it hangs I can log into the box over SSH and do 'echo t > /proc/sysrq-trigger'. Then, I always get the following trace for Xorg: Xorg S ffff880001014350 0 3068 3050 ffff8800794b9d48 0000000000000082 ffff8800794b9c98 ffffffff8024ff75 ffffffff80676000 ffffffff80676000 ffffffff80676000 ffffffff80676000 ffffffff80676000 ffffffff80676000 ffffffff80672de0 ffffffff80676000 Call Trace: [<ffffffff8024ff75>] ? unlock_hrtimer_base+0x13/0x15 [<ffffffff80243b22>] ? __mod_timer+0xb3/0xc5 [<ffffffff8044c065>] schedule_timeout+0x90/0xbf [<ffffffff802435d0>] ? process_timeout+0x0/0xb [<ffffffff80243a8b>] ? __mod_timer+0x1c/0xc5 [<ffffffffa0533eec>] i915_irq_wait+0x136/0x1d1 [i915] [<ffffffff8023320f>] ? default_wake_function+0x0/0xf [<ffffffffa0533db6>] ? i915_irq_wait+0x0/0x1d1 [i915] [<ffffffffa0503160>] drm_ioctl+0x1d6/0x26a [drm] [<ffffffff802b3f00>] vfs_ioctl+0x5e/0x77 [<ffffffff802b4299>] do_vfs_ioctl+0x380/0x3b8 [<ffffffff802b4328>] sys_ioctl+0x57/0x7a [<ffffffff8020bfbb>] system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b that seems to point towards the graphics driver. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This was about Bug #443459.
Just to note (I'm a reported of the bug): I haven't seen the issue for a loong time anymore (having 11.1 on the machine where this happened). I use -mm kernels. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
