What exactly failed? The install How? With a blank screen
I put the disk in the drive and started the machine. I selected Install and hit enter and thats it, Blank Screen! If it had progressed a little further I might have been able to provide some system messages but it didn't get that far. I think it's fairly likely something to do with default kernel options. Next I repeated the above steps but selected F5 Safe mode and the installation ran OK except for Grub failing to install as has already been reported by others.
