Do you have any nfs filesystems listed in /etc/fstab? If so do they have the 'bg' option set? If you want to be able to boot when the NFS servers are not visible, you really need you use autofs to mount all NFS filesystem so they are only mounted on demand. That does /etc/nsswitch.conf show for passwd: and group: If you probably need passwd: files nis so that if the answer is found in 'files' then it doesn't bother going to 'nis'. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
I would need some details of the NFS/NIS configuration.
Do you have any nfs filesystems listed in /etc/fstab? yes, the /srv/home as my home directories + one data directory If so do they have the 'bg' option set? no
If you want to be able to boot when the NFS servers are not visible, you really need you use autofs to mount all NFS filesystem so they are only mounted on demand. I will give this a try. Why isn't it set by default when I configure nfs/nis client?

Is there a simple way to use autofs? Yast tells me to configure ldap module (assume it means the ldap server?) when I try to start yas autoyast, yast ldap server is not configurable. It tells: Loaded: error (Reason: No such file or directory) when using rcldap status. I need help to configure autoyast :(

didn't change anything, startup till login does take 7 minutes!
so that if the answer is found in 'files' then it doesn't bother going to 'nis'.

Possibly the easiest approach is to add: /- /etc/auto.direct to /etc/auto.master. Then add lines like: /full/path -mount,options server:/path to /etc/auto.direct. See "man 5 autofs" and "man auto.master" for more details. You mentioned 2 delays: one during boot and one at login. The change to /etc/nsswitch.conf would only affect the one at login. To reduce the one at boot you need to replace /etc/fstab entries with autofs entries, or at least add the 'bg' option to any nfs mounts in /etc/fstab. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I did make one try but the system dind't boot. Would like to prefer a nfs-solution. At the moment I use a boot entry which prevents network daemon to be started when being outside my network, this works smoth, but isn't a everytime solution. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You need to either mount them manually, use autofs so they are mounted on demand, or have some script like you have which make some ad-hoc approach. The solution that you want doesn't exist.
