[Bug 730773] New: gnome-shell freezes on login with proprietary nvidia driver
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730773 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=730773#c0 Summary: gnome-shell freezes on login with proprietary nvidia driver Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 3rd Party Driver AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: cfarrell@suse.com QAContact: sndirsch@suse.com Found By: Community User Blocker: --- First off, the nvidia driver is loaded - as indicated by the nvidia splash screen that I see shortly before the gnome-shell login prompt comes. Once the login prompt comes, however, the screen completely freezes. I can switch into another mode with Alt-Ctrl-F1 etc, or restart the XServer. The mouse pointer works fine as well, but I cannot click anywhere. Nothing happens. No interaction. This Red Hat bug seems to reflect exactly the same situation: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=716727 Kernel is 3.1.0-1.2-default 32bit NVidia version is NVIDIA-Linux-x86-285.05.09 This is basically a fresh 12.1 installation (possibly with the usual zypper up updates) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please complain directly to NVIDIA. If yes, nvidia has sort of ack'ed that they have reproduced the problem, and that an internal bug has been raised... What/how that bug is doing nobody knows ofcource. Use nouveau, thats what I do :-) http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=162959 Take a look at post nr # 5 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
