I can confirm that on 4.1.x, I no longer see this bug.
However now, when I wake from suspend to RAM, I am presented with the usual KDE
locked screen, but the mouse pointer is now drawn as a square filled with
random pixels.
This returns to a normal mouse pointer when I unlock the screen.
I believe it happens every time.
So functionally I'm out of trouble, but quite curious as to why there is still
a problem with suspending to RAM. Maybe it's a side-effect of the fix? Maybe
there never was a fix, and I'm just lucky that it's corrupting the mouse
pointer instead of panicking the kernel?
That sort of open question leaves me a bit nervous about data corruption, and
I'd like to keep this bug open. Is there anything I can do to try to diagnose
why this is happening?
I'm using the open source ati / radeon driver.
