[Bug 355119] smartd reports false temperatures
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=355119 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=355119#c9 --- Comment #9 from Stanislav Brabec <sbrabec@novell.com> 2010-02-05 18:35:22 CET --- smartctl/smartd simply reports what the hard disc returns. Each vendor (and possibly even each disc model or firmware) use slightly different way to generate attributes. Fixing this on OS level tool level means creating of complete table of hard disc models and their understanding of parameters. As far as I know, these are more important: - How particular HDD firmware encodes temperature to Temperature_Celsius (some of them use raw value, some of them use scaled value, some of them use Celsius degrees, some of them seems to use Fahrenheit degrees). (this bug) - How particular HDD firmware encodes sector relocation toReallocated_Sector_Ct,Current_Pending_Sector and Offline_Uncorrectable, pending sectors, . For some of them, pending sector means critical error (sector cannot be relocated), for others it is indicates just the fact that it was relocated.
