So there is no need to have them started at boot, ie no need to have them in presets. There switching between runlevel 3 and 5 worked just fine. After zypper dup which brought systemd 228 the runlevel switch showed the effect as described. Even when the system is in multi-user.target, ie runlevel 3 typing "init 3" kills the shell when actually nothing should happen. This *is* a problem for all X based sessions as these can not be reconnected without restart!

That doesn't seem to be an issue here with X11 and icewm.

AFAICR there is the problem that authorized and open file descriptors are lost.
