[Bug 271733] New: update blocked by bogus lilo warning
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=271733 Summary: update blocked by bogus lilo warning Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: olh@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com The system update in the second stage of an openSuSE 10.2 installation is blocked by a bogus lilo warning. The kernel %post scripts will call perl-Bootloader, which will do the lilo call. There is no need to stall the update process and ask for confirmation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

So IMHO it must stay, if it is not obsoleted some other way. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It isn't easily possible to change this for a released patch. Maintenance team never has been informed about this change to put this warning away. Andreas, are you fine with this solution? Anja, Klaus: Please remove the "lilo warning" from our templates for 10.2 and newer openSUSE releases. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=271733 ------- Comment #8 from kgw@novell.com 2007-05-09 03:19 MST ------- The warning is triggered and defined by the POST: line in the kernel update patchinfo file. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=271733 ------- Comment #9 from aosthof@novell.com 2007-05-09 05:05 MST ------- IMHO it's save to remove this warning, because "bootloader_entry", which is called by the kernel post script, invokes a "update_bootloader --refresh". That call causes lilo to be run after changes have been made. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=271733 ------- Comment #10 from hmuelle@novell.com 2007-05-16 05:09 MST ------- Stefan? Is this save for all existing products (10.0-10.2 and SLE8 to SLE10 based products) We need a list where we should remove it cause it is no longer needed. Klaus (kgw) will adjust the patchinfo templates with this list. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Thus, lilo has to be called manually after an update. * 10.1: The necessary option (update_bootloader --refresh) exists, thus the (obsolete) warning can be removed. * SLES8: The package perl-Bootloader didn't exist at this point of time at all. If I'm right, SLES8 was released in April 2003, but the development of perl-Bootloader initially began in September 2005. Thus, lilo has to be called manually after an update. * SLES9 & SLES9-SP3: The package perl-Bootloader didn't exist at this point of time at all. Thus, lilo has to be called manually after an update. * SLES10-GA: The necessary option (update_bootloader --refresh) exists, thus the (obsolete) warning can be removed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It seems we only need to adjust 10.1 and SLE10 - 10.2 should be already done.
