For "lock up", we ideally need debug logs (Y2DEBUG=1). If the system is absolutely frozen and you can't get those logs, then PLS use startshell=1 on Linuxrc commandline, mount some NFS share or USB stick to /var/log ... or you can even try using relatively new "Loghost" parameter in Linuxrc.
