[Bug 849758] New: VLC doesn't display subtitles for matroska files
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=849758 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=849758#c0 Summary: VLC doesn't display subtitles for matroska files Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: hkaustin@luukku.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0 I installed VLC 2.1.0 and codecs using Packman repo. Works fine except subtitles for matroska files aren't displayed. Tried several videos and different subtitles. In openSUSE 12.3 with same VLC version and same files the subtitles are displayed. Default VLC settings were used for both (subtitles are enabled at settings). I'm using openSUSE 13.1 RC2. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Add Packman repo: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/packman/suse/openSUSE_13.1/ 2. Install vlc-qt, suggested packages, some matroska video file (.mkv) and subtitles (.srt) for that. 3. Play file and add the subtitle: Sub titles > Add subtitle file > Choose the file. Actual Results: Subtitles aren't displayed. Expected Results: Subtitles should be visible. I changed system files to use VLC repo. During install of VLC Yast informs that libavdevice55-2.0-36.1x86_64 needs libswresample0=2.0 but it isn't available choose to keep the old libswresample0-2.0-36.1x86_64. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

2. Install vlc-qt, suggested packages, some matroska video file (.mkv) and subtitles (.srt) for that.
Do you have the package "vlc" installed? If not, subtitles won't work, as it contains the libass plugin. Not having it installed is perfectly possible, because it isn't required by any other vlc package (not even recommended), and /usr/bin/vlc is contained in vlc-noX. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's because I tried to uninstall the program before changing the repo from VLC to Packman and to be sure it works. Now subtitles work fine.
