I am not sure what additional info I could give to reproduce the problem, except maybe: - I did a fresh install with beta5, no system files changed manually besides xorg.conf (to enable an intel graphics card). - First used KDE4, then KDE3. - Created a new test user, problem persists. - reinstalled all packages that involve screensavers, no change in the symptom. - Gnome and KDE4 screensaver selection works fine. Anyhow, I will check back if the problem persists in RC1, maybe it's obsolete by then already. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

When the random screensaver has activated, which process is providing the screensaver? Look for something like "clock.kss" in the process list - you may have to ssh in from another machine to test this without the screensaver going off, or start a 2nd X session. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm quite sure this worked in 11.1 beta4 because I used the "random image" screensaver to do a picture "presentation", and had to configure it before. Maybe this information helps you to narrow down the problematic change. (Upgrading severity - not being able to choose and configure the screensaver is major IMHO. On my Notebook, running 11.0, I updated KDE to 3.5.10 and everything about screensavers worked fine. Additionally I set up a new user on my system and logged it into KDE 3. I have two systems which are both running the latest KDE:KDE3, KDE:Backports, KDE:KDE4:STABLE. One of them is fine and the other is showing this bug. On the working system, the search order of kcm_screensaver is /var/lib/kde-profiles/default/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers /var/lib/kde-profiles/default/share/applnk/apps/ScreenSavers /etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers /etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/apps/ScreenSavers /opt/kde3/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers /opt/kde3/share/applnk/apps/ScreenSavers ~/.kde/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers ~/.kde/share/applnk/apps/ScreenSavers On the buggy system, I get the search order /var/lib/kde-profiles/default/share/applnk/GNOME Settings/System/ScreenSavers /var/lib/kde-profiles/default/share/applnk/apps/ScreenSavers /etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/GNOME Settings/System/ScreenSavers /etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/apps/ScreenSavers /opt/kde3/share/applnk/GNOME Settings/System/ScreenSavers /opt/kde3/share/applnk/apps/ScreenSavers ~/.kde/share/applnk/GNOME Settings/System/ScreenSavers ~/.kde/share/applnk/apps/ScreenSavers/ kcm_screensaver has the suffixes "apps/ScreenSavers/" and "System/ScreenSavers/" compiled into its binary file. The prefixes must be coming from somewhere else, especially the buggy prefixes containing "GNOME Settings". And that's where the two systems differ: The buggy one has a GNOME desktop installed. After installing gnu-control-center and its dependencies on the bug-free system it was buggy too. Until a proper fix is available, you can temporarily fix this issue by adding a directory and a symlink: # mkdir /opt/kde3/share/applnk/apps # ln -s ../System/ScreenSavers /opt/kde3/share/applnk/apps/ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
