[Bug 778425] New: Can't get sound out of my speaker jack.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=778425 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=778425#c0 Summary: Can't get sound out of my speaker jack. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@suse.com ReportedBy: twisted_sketch777@yahoo.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1 I'm running a recently built computer with a GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard, which uses the Realtek ALC 898 codec. It works fine in Windows, both out of my rear speaker jack and my front headphone jack. However, in OpenSUSE 12.1 (which I freshly installed) I can only sometimes get audio out of the front headphone jack and I cannot get any audio out of the rear speaker jack at all. I tried updating to ALSA 1.0.25 in both the user space and the kernel space, but this did not help. Currently: cat /proc/asound/version Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.25-git20120824. Compiled on Aug 23 2012 for kernel 3.1.10-1.16-desktop (SMP). cat /proc/asound/modules 0 snd_hda_intel cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH HDA Intel PCH at 0xf7530000 irq 46 cat /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf options snd slots=snd-hda-intel # u1Nb.1Ev3xqQuarC:Intel Corporation alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel Your ALSA information is located at http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=3b46814e3b0b990bce0924cf3df3079687e9b558 zathras:~ # rpm -qa '*alsa*' alsa-oss-32bit-1.0.25-37.2.x86_64 alsa-plugins-pulse-1.0.25-58.1.x86_64 alsa-oss-1.0.25-37.2.x86_64 alsa-plugins-32bit-1.0.25-58.1.x86_64 alsa-plugins-pulse-32bit-1.0.25-58.1.x86_64 alsa-1.0.25-115.1.x86_64 alsa-utils-1.0.25-61.1.x86_64 alsa-docs-1.0.25-115.1.noarch alsa-firmware-1.0.25-26.1.noarch alsa-driver-kmp-desktop-1.0.25.20120824_k3.1.10_1.16-1.1.x86_64 alsa-plugins-1.0.25-58.1.x86_64 zathras:~ # rpm -q 'libasound2' libasound2-1.0.25-115.1.x86_64 There is no ALSA information in any of the files within /usr/src/linux-3.1.10-1.16/Documentation/sound/alsa/ for ALC898, so I cannot add it to /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install OpenSUSE 12.1 on a system with a GA-Z77X-UD5H motherboard. This may be repeatable on another one that uses Realtek ALC 898. 2. Plug speakers into the rear jack, turn them on and make sure the volume is up. 3. Listen to the silence when attempting the speaker test in http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Audio_troubleshooting. 4. Follow steps here to attempt to upgrade ALSA. http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Alsa-update#UPDATED_Kernel_Section_STEP-FIVE_-_in... 5. Hear more silence when testing. Actual Results: Nothing. When Windows initializes, there's a pop from the speakers every time, and of course there is sound. When I boot into OpenSUSE, I hear silence. Expected Results: I was hoping that ALSA would update so I could get sound, or at least provide the required text to add the ALC 898 info to /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf so I could at least try and get sound. Are all these jacks correct? If not, BIOS doesn't set the right pin configuration. You have to figure out the pins by yourself. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
