For example, after a "ding" in a gmail chat. If you try and play music through banshee, it will fail. Is the sound created by Flash? Just confirm what happens after Flash has played sound on some site like youtube. If Flash can trigger the issue, it's most likely one of the thousands bugs caused by pulse/flash. Do you use Gnome, KDE, anything else? Do you run pulseaudio?
