https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=721673 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=721673#c0 Summary: Sound works in Yast2 and root-fails as a user Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@suse.com ReportedBy: n5xwb@comcast.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:10.0a1) Gecko/20110928 Firefox/10.0a1 If I get the sound setup with yast2 and change /etc/group to allow the user to the sound. Then as a "user" bring up KDE4 and you don't hear the KDE sound as previously setup in Multimedia fails to work. Login as root and it works. This is runlevel 3 and 12.1 B5 (also happened in previous versions). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.as a user bring up startx (runlevel 3) 2.play music via amarok or vlc 3.notice they seem to work but no audio (with a Kmix up) Actual Results: no audio out from amarok or vlc Expected Results: to hear something like music To get it to work I need to change /dev/dsp mixer mixer1 to 666 and not as set to 660. This used to be done in /etc/permission.local (but it is nolonger checked). When I change dsp and others to 666 and wait a while KDE plays the audio. Enlight of permission.local not being seen where can I set 666. Nothing is found in /etc/udev/. It must be permission set because works and users fail -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
