Not entirely sure what does what, but: I disconnected the red connector placed roughly in the middle, and since then I have not had any of these errors any more and the load is back to normal. I have not seen anything not work as a result of this. I have a feeling it may be video related, but the memory card reader still works in Windows and the USB device is visible in Linux but does not register the devices inserted. It looks like Windows needs a program running to make it work, so that might explain why nothing happens in Linux...
