[Bug 739360] New: nmbd crashes at boot with systemd and blocks proper network start for about 5 min
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=739360 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=739360#c0 Summary: nmbd crashes at boot with systemd and blocks proper network start for about 5 min Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Samba AssignedTo: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de ReportedBy: jh276@gmx.de QAContact: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0 If I boot with setting samba start at boot time my network (WLAN) is not present for the first about 5 min. This was already noticed during factory of 12.1 and is reported from others for example here http://old.nabble.com/Systemd-RC2-12.1-slow-start-of-job-network-td32824450.... It was found that the origin of the hang is nmbd. If I switch in YAST to start samba not at boot but manually the hang does not appear and network is up from the beginning. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Boot 12.1 with systemd and the (YAST) setting "start samba at system start" 2. 3. Actual Results: After the boot seems to be finished my WLAN-device is not present, while eth0 is. eth0 is configured for fixed (local) IP and WLAN for dhcp (internet connectivity). After about 3-6 minutes wlan0 appears and is working properly without further problems. Expected Results: system is starting and external network (wlan) is up quickly. /var/log/samba/log.nmbd gives for a boot at 14:49 ==snipp== [2012/01/03 14:50:11, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:860(main) nmbd version 3.6.1-34.3.1-2691-SUSE-SL12.1-x86_64 started. Please try if this also happens while you're using sysvinit instead of systemd.
with sysvinit all is going well.
At http://download.openSUSE.org/pub/opensuse/update/12.1-test/<ARCH>/ - please replace <ARCH> by i586 or x86_64 - the planed systemd update is already available. You either download the systemd packages you currently have installed on your system or you add http://download.openSUSE.org/pub/opensuse/update/12.1-test/ as additional repository. The later might make the install easier.
Do you suggest to install this (future) version of systemd to test if the problem is gone? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In the test repo is systemd version 37-3.6.1 built Dec 19, 12:24 This version is already released and was installed during regular update yesterday 17:50h on my system. The actual systemd 37.3.6.1 show the same behaviour as the prior one. No improvement!

I didn't cleared the flag because I expected not to have provided all needed info. BTW.: All notifications by bugzilla are catched by spam filters. I changed my email address to one at another provider but also here bugzillas mails are catched by the filter. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

please test samba-client package from home:fcrozat:systemd / samba, I think it fixes this issue.
Sorry I could not find the path you had given. Please advise. I only could find home:/fcrozat:/systemd/openSUSE_12.1/ with a samba-client package 3.6.1-34.6.1. Is this the one you want to be tested? package are available at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/fcrozat:/systemd/openSUSE_12...
I've pushed another fix, please test samba-client 3.6.1-34.7.1 or later.
it is working. No hang at boot anymore, WLAN available instantaneously. It seems to be fixed! J. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
