From DVD install (yast-installer ?), at the Installation Overview step, this requires Changing Software (which only presents patterns), clicking Details... and searching for gnome-shell .
With Gnome3 releasing a month after 11.4, there will be much interest in seeing the progress. The package is only a very quick and dirty hack we did. We'll do something better with the real GNOME 3 after 11.4 is out and it's much better to wait for this. Probably something related to what's discussed in http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-packaging/2010-09/msg00121.html to make it easy for people to use this.
