[Bug 537585] New: Partitioning Disks -fstab option device reverts to fstab using uuid after install.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537585 Summary: Partitioning Disks -fstab option device reverts to fstab using uuid after install. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: swolfe100@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=317326) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=317326) y2logs User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060200 SUSE/3.0.11-0.1.1 Firefox/3.0.11 During Install I selected custom partitioning. I created two partitions, a swap and a root. while doing so I selected size, format, and fstab options .. I wanted fstab option of device. I do NOT want uuids. After installation, I had a fine installation of Opensuse 11.1 BUT fstab was using UUIDs which causes problems with cloning and SunVirtual box export/import. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot up on cdrom 2.select custom partitioning. 3.add the partitions, select fstab option device . 4.complete the installation 5.used uuid anyhow. Actual Results: vmrunner@vm0:/etc> cat fstab /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Maxtor_6Y080M0_Y2CFR8TE-part1 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Maxtor_6Y080M0_Y2CFR8TE-part2 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/disk/by-id/ata-Maxtor_6Y080M0_Y2CFR8TE-part3 / ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1 /dev/sdb1 /home2 ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0 debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs noauto 0 0 usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0 Expected Results: vmrunner@vm0:/etc> cat fstab /dev/sda1 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/sda2 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/sda3 / ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1 /dev/sdb1 /home2 ext3 acl,user_xattr 1 1 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0 debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs noauto 0 0 usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0 If you search on the Net, this is causing many of the Virtual Machine people quite a bit of trouble. They see it as the imported vm is NOT booting. Gives strange errors. Takes awhile to figure out. And I am uncertain that efforts to change /boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab actually work. They worked for awhile, but when I picked up fixes I think it broke. I have not tried the label option instead of the device option. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

/dev/disk/by-id/ata-Maxtor_6Y080M0_Y2CFR8TE-part1 swap swap
These are not partition UUID's, but disk ID; Compare: * ls /dev/disk/by-id/ * ls /dev/disk/by-uuid/ Moreover, in the YaST logs (unless I'm mistaken) I see you specified mounting by ID, so it is fine. To be sure, I tried to reproduce your issue with clean install and it worked for me just fine. Note that what you want is "Device name" in "Fstab options" dialog. Manually changing /etc/fstab should work. As for the bootloader, I think you should go to Yast->bootloader->bootloader installation->boot loader installation details and adjust the settings there. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
