You can change it in YaST -> Hardware -> Disk Controller and you'll need to rebuild your initrd (mkinitrd). Just in case something goes wrong, having an installation media around would be handy. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=278081 ------- Comment #4 from robert.finze@student.uni-tuebingen.de 2007-05-25 14:41 MST ------- i removed the drive yesterday night. the drive should be on its way to suse for testing, so i can't test it right now, sorry. when i get the drive back i can test the other controller driver. what exactly do you mean with 'something goes wrong'? could this mess up the system and i could need to reinstall? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=278081 ------- Comment #5 from teheo@novell.com 2007-05-26 03:20 MST ------- It won't mess up the system but it might (shouldn't but still) make the kernel and initrd unable to mount the root filesystem, in which case, you can boot with installation media and fix it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=278081 ------- Comment #7 from robert.finze@student.uni-tuebingen.de 2007-05-31 13:39 MST ------- sorry, for the delay. i put the drive back in and changed to pata_via. the system still boots and seems to run smoothly. look at /var/log/messages i find many errors with 'ata7', which i assume, is the dvd-drive: Apr 25 12:47:02 susie kernel: ata7: no sense translation for status: 0x50 Apr 25 12:47:02 susie kernel: ata7: translated ATA stat/err 0x50/00 to SCSI SK/ASC/ASCQ 0xb/00/00 Apr 25 12:47:02 susie kernel: ata7: status=0x50 { DriveReady SeekComplete } i get this error quite often. other than the i can't find any errors there. but i still haven't tried mounting a dvd. i can't really tell any more right now, because i don't know where and how to look and test for errors. carl-daniel is on vacation and will be back about next week. until than i'm on my own ^^ -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=278081 ------- Comment #9 from robert.finze@student.uni-tuebingen.de 2007-06-05 02:25 MST ------- 'dmesg' only prints network stuff as an output...here some examples: SFW2-INext-DROP-DEFLT IN=eth0 OUT=[....] martian source 255.255.255.255 from [...], on dev eth0 ll header: [...] SFW2-INext-DROP-DEFLT IN=eth0 OUT=[....] about 95% of the output are those SFW2 lines... i assume that has nothing to do with the problem -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=278081 ------- Comment #10 from teheo@novell.com 2007-06-05 22:09 MST ------- I see. It seems the ATAPI device doesn't like the polling command issued by hal. It fails the command and old IDE layer fails to recover from it. libata does better but the best way to fix this is to update hal such that it doesn't issue those polling commands to the drive. Can you give a shot at 10.3 alpha4? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
