I believe the error is in the knetworkmanager / networkmanager area, not in the dhcpcd function. I configured the wlan0 with a "ifup" style configuration, to be activated manually. I can consistently activate and use wlan0 by doing: # wpa_supplicant -c $PWD/supp.conf -i wlan0 -d supp.conf contains the following: # # home network; allow all valid ciphers network={ ssid="seg0ka-lan-rgb" key_mgmt=WPA-PSK psk="itsasecret" } wlan0 gets associated succesfully. (see wpa_supp.txt for details) then I do dhcpcd wlan0. and the wifi link works (working with it now, as I am writing this) since nm-applet and knetworkmanager are both incapable of doing their work, I assume there's something very wrong with both of them, or Networkmanager. hope this helps. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

it was already commented out. (script <dadadada>)
No, it is still active / not commented out in dhclient.conf that you provide in comment #9: send dhcp-lease-time 3600; request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers, domain-name, domain-name-servers, host-name, nis-domain, nis-servers, ntp-servers, netbios-name-servers; require subnet-mask, domain-name-servers; ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ timeout 60; retry 60; reboot 10; select-timeout 5; initial-interval 2; script "/sbin/dhclient-script"; ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It looks like an old (openSUSE-10.3) config file... The active script line breaks NetworkManager. The 'require subnet-mask, domain-name-servers;' line requires dns configuration from dhcp server and may break dhclient completely when the server does not provide any... Check if there is a /etc/dhclient.conf.rpmnew and rename or change the config manually to: send dhcp-lease-time 3600; request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers, domain-name, domain-name-servers, host-name, nis-domain, nis-servers, ntp-servers, netbios-name-servers; # We request above options, require only the IP configuration: require subnet-mask; # To enforce the availability of the dns server list, set to: #require subnet-mask, domain-name-servers; timeout 60; retry 60; reboot 10; select-timeout 5; initial-interval 2; # Default location of the dhclient-script. Note: Setting # it in the config, disables the -sf command line option! #script "/sbin/dhclient-script"; -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As a last test I tried installing old knetworkmanager, that's probably the cause for the dhclient.conf being 10.3 style. anyway, did a clean install, 11.0, took all the patches, makes no difference. dhclient simply does not work. (networkmanager controlled) and dhcpcd simply does not work. ( ifup configuration) if i do the conventional thing (ifup config) i can do a manual #> wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c some.conf and it will authenticate. after that, I use #> dhcpcd-test wlan0 and then #> dhcpcd wlan0 which never fails. ( I am posting this, so there's the proof...) However, static configuration of this ifup config does not work either, the dhcpcd does not acquire an adress...... so it must be to do with the way dhclient / dhcpcd are sent off with parameters, not the code itself....... I will try an ifup that needs manual start and see what happens. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
