[Bug 490011] New: Calling xrandr freezes X11, affects KDE 3.5, possibly related KDM problems
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=490011 Summary: Calling xrandr freezes X11, affects KDE 3.5, possibly related KDM problems Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vlukas@gmx.de QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=282690) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=282690) Snippet of /var/log/kdm.log, the problems begin on 26 March 2009 (beginning with line 173) User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.5; Linux; x86_64; en_US) KHTML/3.5.10 (like Gecko) SUSE Since updating Opensuse via the Factory Repository on 25 March 2009, I have some X11 problems, of which the most grave one is that calling xrandr freezes X11. This problem affects KDE 3.5 because the startkde script calls "xrandr --auto" at its beginning. Commenting out this call makes it possible to start KDE. Possibly related to this is a problem with KDM, which occurs since the same time: Booting into runlevel 5 while having KDM activated as display manager is not possible. KDM attempts to start up - for a few seconds the busy mouse cursor is shown. Then the screen goes blank for around a second. Then a blank screen is shown again. This sequence repeats (busy cursor -> blank -> busy cursor). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot into runlevel 3. 2. Set WINDOWMANAGER environment variable to /usr/bin/fvwm. 3. Call startx. 4. In an xterm, call "xrandr --auto" Actual Results: X11 freezes. Shutting down the X server with Ctrl + Alt + Backspace is not possible and neither is rebooting the machine via Ctrl + Alt + Del. The machine can be shut off however with the "Magic SysRq" keys. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Wrong pixman library? Maybe factory was inconsisten at that time? Could you reinstall xorg-x11-server and pixman packages from X11:XOrg project? I have now replaced those packages. I can confirm that xrandr does not crash anymore and that KDM starts up again.
xkeyboard-config package still installed? I have xkeyboard-config installed.
