E.g: If the .csv file contains "1." oocalc will interpret this as 1 (as number). When I save to the same .csv file again (without doing any modifications) the "1." in the original file will be replaced by 1 (without the trailing dot and without quotes). Of course, if a value is quoted, it should be imported as text, even when the 'Standard' data type is selected. For example, in a locale where a comma is the decimal separator, users might want to have a number such as "123,456" interpreted as number, not text. So, I think having an extra check box to toggle this behavior may be the best way to go. There is now a new check box "Quoted field as text" below the "Merge delimiters" check box. When checked, quoted fields, or cells, get imported as text cells.
