[Bug 798278] New: Soundblaster Live! X Gamer (CT 4760X) fails to load AC97 driver causing the sound driver not to work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=798278 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=798278#c0 Summary: Soundblaster Live! X Gamer (CT 4760X) fails to load AC97 driver causing the sound driver not to work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@suse.com ReportedBy: Lukewolf101010@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0 Background: A friend recently gave me a Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer which based on the Creative product code page is a variant of the Sound Blaster Live! Platinum (CT4760P) with there also being an MP3 edition in that family of cards. A comment on toms hardware has led me to believe that the difference between these was the prepackaged software, regardless I only have the X-Gamer to test that theory, but the Platinum is declared as working in the support matrix, so the sound card should work. Problem: As you can see in the dmesg there seems to be some problem with the AC'97 Codec not responding or something which causes it to disable the mixer causing the emu10k1 driver to not go through which means I'm stuck on using the integrated audio codec. I've tested this on a bunch of distros including: openSUSE 12.2, Fedora 13, Fedora 17, Fedora 18 Beta, Kubuntu 12.10, Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 9.10, and Slax 4.2.0 and they've all failed to support the soundcard indicating a bug that is very long standing and upstream. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install a Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer into your Desktop 2. Start up some Linux, doesn't matter what distro 3. Check lspci -vv, dmesg, and alsamixer to see that it's not working. Actual Results: AC'97 Driver part of emu10k1 breaks causing the soundcard to not work Expected Results: Sound card driver to load as expected. /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh results: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=2c4e5d6c72dce2b25f05897b1fb042a715ba8fac Creative product code listing: http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?url=http://ask.creative.com:... The older distros have been discontinued, so we cannot debug any longer for them. Thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
