[Bug 309046] New: Kernel Source Update Out Of Space Error
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=309046 Summary: Kernel Source Update Out Of Space Error Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 3 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: zenarcher@cableone.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I installed Beta 3, which included the default kernel-bigsmp Version 2.6.22.5-10 i586. During the initial package selection, I also included kernel-source and kernel-syms(same versions). During partitioning, I used the suggested partitioning scheme, using the entire 80GB hard drive. This gave me a / partition of 19.7GB. This is the same as I had with OpenSUSE 10.2 on the system. After installation, I had 3.6GB used in /, with the rest available to use. Checking updates, I found patches for the three kernel packages. When I attempted to install the kernel patches, I receive an error that I do not have enough open space in / to install them. This makes no sense at all, since there is more than adequate space available. I've been able to add many other, larger applications without an issue. I then reinstalled, choosing only kernel-bigsmp and not installing any kernel-source or kernel-syms. I then attempted to install kernel-source and kernel-syms and receive the same out of space error message, with only kernel-bigsmp installed. Both will install during an initial install with no issue, but cannot be added after the installation is complete. Essentially, no kernel packages can be patched after initial installation, due to out of space error, with 15.7GB of unused space on the partition. Yet, the same configuration works perfectly on the same box with Version 10.2. Any ideas? I could not figure out from the Help link you provided, exactly how to do it. I'm pretty green with the command line stuff. Anyway, I have attached a copy of the file you requested...but I did rename it, adding a "1" to the end, so I wouldn't mess up the original log file, if I made a mistake. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This sort of thing happens in my experience with any package got from an external repository. But you can ignore the warning about lack of space and go ahead and install anyway. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried to search before I sent the bug report, but it looks like I missed it. Thanks for pointing that out. I will probably give a try to installing anyway and see what happens, since I know there really is plenty of space available. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
