The directory /sys/class/backlight is empty so "grep . /sys/class/backlight* -R" returns nothing.
This mean simply there is no module loaded to handle the backlight. So KPowersave or HAL can't provide the capability to change the backlight levels. Please try to load the video module (modprobe video) and check if there is now something in the /sys/class/backlight/ directory. Restart HAL (rchal restart) and maybe also KPowersave, and check if it works now
I do not know the command "lal", also my system does not. Maybe you meant "lshal"?
Yes, meant lshal. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You mean if you load the video module /sys/class/backlight is also empty? Are you sure it worked in 10.2 via KPowersave? Could you provide lshal from a 10.2 installation?
I am not absolutly sure that it worked with the latest updates of kpowersave, but before I reported the bug I checked with the 10.2 Live-DVD. There kpowersave can control the brightness. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

there are two drivers for ASUS at the moment. Old, drivers/acpi/asus_acpi.c -> asus-acpi still supports P35. New, drivers/misc/asus_laptop.c -> asus-laptop does not support P35. Load old driver to get support.
How should I load the old driver. If I do "modprobe asus_acpi" I get: FATAL: Module asus_acpi not found -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
